Y3 to Weston Park Museum

It was amazing to take the Year 3 children  out on their second trip of the year.  This time we took the double decker to Weston Park Museum. Here we got a special chance to meet not one but two Egyptian mummies which really helped us to understand more about the mummification process that we have been talking about in school.

We saw  so many Ancient Egyptian artefacts – these fantastic primary sources of evidence bringing our learning to life! We even had a go at making our own artefact for the child mummy in our ‘Meet a Mummy’ workshop. We did wonder how these mummies had made it all the way to Sheffield and whether this was right?

As we explored the rest of the museum we also  made links with our recent ‘Mists of Time’ learning: studying the bronze age artefacts; experiencing a Celtic house and realising just how huge some of the ice age mammals were!

Well done Year 3 – we were proud to see how immersed you were and how you asked such thoughtful questions throughout. A huge thanks to all of our parent helpers too!
