Welcome
On behalf of the governing board, a very warm welcome to our school. We are proud to be part of Dore Primary School. Working alongside the Headteacher and senior leadership team we are passionate about supporting the school to deliver on our shared vision of ‘Achieving Excellence Together’.
We welcome engagement and representation from all stakeholders in both the school community as well as the wider local community. Please email or write to the school office using the details in the contact us section.
What we do
Governing Bodies are the key decision makers and vision setters in every school, helping to set the school’s aims and values. Our core functions as a governing board are;
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils and the performance management of staff
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
This is often further simplified as being a ‘critical friend’ to the school’s leadership team. Throughout what we do, we have a shared dedication to supporting and challenging the school to be the best it can be for its pupils and the wider community.
We do not engage with operational management of the school; this is the responsibility of the Headteacher and the senior leadership team.
Structure
We are a committed team of volunteers from both the parent body and wider community, as well as the Headteacher and representation from the school staff. The different types and numbers of governor we have are;
- Co-Opted (9) : Appointed from the local community by the governing board for specific skills
- Parent (3): Elected by the parent body
- Local Authority (1): Appointed by Sheffield City Council
- Staff (1): Elected by the staff of the school
- The Headteacher
We have at least six full governing board meetings per year. We contribute to the strategic decisions and direction of the school, provide support and challenge to the leadership of the school, and have an effective input towards the curriculum and educational achievement of our pupils.
The finance committee meets at least termly, in which more specific financial work is carried out under terms of reference set by the full board. We also have a specific panel for Headteacher Performance and a staff pay committee.
Informed by the school’s Achieving Excellence Plan we form a team of Link Governors each year who are able to explore specific areas with relevant senior leaders, supporting and challenging the school to deliver on the priorities identified.
Becoming involved
If becoming a member of our governing board is of interest please contact the school using the contact us section of the website. We recognise and celebrate the diversity of our school and community, and welcome interest from all members of our community.
