Y5 have been learning about their new sport of Handball. The children began by learning the rules of this fast-paced sport as well as the basic skills of movement, passing and shooting. They have begun to develop their tactics by thinking about defensive and offensive formations and how to “break” from one to another.
With the Winter Paralympics around the corner, the children have also been thinking about adapting the game for athletes who may have physical disabilities. Through discussion and experimentation, they have come up with the rules for “Sitting Handball” in order to make the game inclusive for people with mobility-based disabilities.
