Y6 Sheffield Schools’ Athletics Heats & Finals

After taking the whole of Y6 for a morning at King Ecgbert School’s Mercia field, we selected a team of children to represent the school in 80m, 800m, 600m walk, 150m, relays, ball throw and long jump at the 2nd of three heats to qualify children for the city finals.

We did really well at the heats, with 16 children qualifying for the city finals in various events.

In the finals themselves, we achieved a second place in the girls’ ball throw, and a third place in the boys’ 80m sprint. We also had lots of other top 5 and top 10 finishes. Almost every child managed to get a better time or distance than in the heats, which ultimately is the aim of athletics: to keep setting personal bests.

Many thanks to our parents for transporting and supporting the children, and to Mrs Simpson and Mrs Sahota for giving up their evenings to help at both events.
