Sheffield Children’s Book Award 2022

It was a pleasure to take the Year 4s to the 2022 Sheffield Children’s Book Award. We had read the three entries in the ‘shorter novels’ section last year and voted for our favourite: I Lost my Granny in the Super Market by Jo Simmons had the vast majority of the votes from Y3H and Y3GD! So it was great to see this come out as the winner in its category. It was also great to see and hear the children being so excited about books and reading. They loved meeting the authors, including Jo Simmons and The Lord Mayor Sioned-Mair Richards and host Joanna Adeyinka-Burford.

The overall winner was The Crossing by Manjeet Mann.

Most children came away with a new book to read and many couldn’t wait to leave the Crucible Theater before getting started and carrying on in the bus!

Thanks to everyone for making it a great day!
