Year 4

On the Last Day Before Christmas…

… my true love sent to me a fantastic whole-school assembly! Every child (and adult) in school came together in the junior hall to enjoy and join in with performances from the Junior Choir and the Y2 Nativity. This lovely event was completed with a full rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas, with each […]

KS2 Citizenship Awards

This week has seen the termly presentation of our ‘Citizenship Awards’. As the name suggests, these are given to children who have been great examples of living the school values of resilience, resourcefulness, creativity and kindness. As you can see from their faces, the recipients are rightly proud of their awards.

Y4 Winter Walk

To end an excellent first term in Y4, we spent our penultimate day before the Christmas holiday undertaking a 10 kilometre walk from school, up to Totley Moss and Blacka Moor, then back to school. As you can see, the views were NOT amazing as the weather was pretty awful. Fortunately, Y4 children (and teachers) […]

Y4 RE – Christ Church Dore Visit

As part of our RE unit of Christianity, Y4 were invited to visit Christ Church in the village. As well as seeing inside the church, we learned about Christian Christmas beliefs, including what the advent candles represent, and reminded ourselves of the Nativity story. We explored the church through a ‘clue hunt’, then Andy asnwered […]

Y4 Design and Technology – Reindeer

To create our cute reindeer, Y4 had to measure, mark and cut their wood. Next we drilled holes for the legs, neck and antlers and stuck on noses and eyes. Finally we plaited scarves to finish off our creations. As the photos show, this required some fantastic teamwork from the whole year group. Our value […]

Y4 English – Portal Stories

Y4 have spent a great deal of care, time and effort creating these amazing stories. First we read about different examples of ‘portal story’, including The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and The Phantom Tollbooth. We worked out that mostly portal stories start with someone who isn’t happy with their everyday life (just like […]

Santa Dash

As part of our commitment to promoting physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle, our wonderful Year 6s organised the annual Dore Primary School Santa Dash. Children from across the juniors took part, completing a fun course around the school grounds. The course was well-marshalled by our Year 6s and participants were encouraged to […]

Y4 Science – Digestion

As part of our ‘Food for Thought’ learning journey, Y4 investigated the digestive systems of humans, cows and chickens, to understand how bodies and organs adapt to different diets. For humans, we re-enacted the journey of food from its entry into the body to its exit. We used various household objects to show this, including […]

Y4 UDOIT Dance Festival

Working with Dance charity UDOIT for the last six weeks has been an absolute pleasure and privilege for our Y4 children. Coached by dance teachers Jack and Sinead, both classes have learned different routines to different mixes of music. Our children have worked so hard to focus on and learn the moves, and their confidence […]

Y4 – Hotshots Basketball Competition

After the whole year goup took part in basketball during PE in Autumn 1, we took a team of 10 to our local School Games competition. Our children gave a great account of themselves, getting better and better in every game they played, and managed to win two and lose two. The teams we lost […]
